Sailing Time Calculator
Enter any two of distance, speed and passage time; the third is calculated. Distance in nautical miles, speed in knots.
Fill any two — leave the one you want blank.
The distance–speed–time relationship
Time = Distance ÷ Speed, Distance = Speed × Time, Speed = Distance ÷ Time. One nautical mile ≈ 1.15 statute miles ≈ 1.852 km; one knot is one nautical mile per hour.
Passage planning tips
Use your realistic average speed (often 60–75% of hull speed under sail), not your best burst. Add margin for tide, leeway and reefing. For multi-day passages, divide the total hours by a conservative daily run.
